Rick became an Austinite in 1981 after spending his formative years in El Paso, Texas. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture, with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1992. During his education he spent a year-long internship at Frank O. Gehry and Associates and contributed to many notable projects, such as the Disney Concert Hall in L.A. and the Toledo Museum of Art School. He has also collaborated throughout the years with John Mayfield Architect on several large scale traditional residential projects.
In 1996 Rick established his own architecture practice, shortly after becoming licensed by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. In his collaborative partnership with Cindy, Rick conceptualizes the design for each project and develops this vision throughout the design process. Rick engages contractors, engineers and consultants at an early stage of the design, and collaborates with them to create innovative, refined details.
Rick is a member of Preservation Austin and the American Institute of Architects. As a board member of MidTexMod, the local chapter of docomomo, he advocates for the appreciation and preservation of recent past modern architecture. He is passionate about art and design, and continually searches for inspiration and meaning through both classical and modern works.
